This course will examine different case studies of how emerging market countries have addressed dilemmas such as monetary policy, trade policy, capital flows, and industrialization. The course will focus on analyzing the interaction of political and economic trends to understand how they shape and constrain policy makers. Case studies of emerging markets responding to policy dilemmas and economic shocks will illustrate broader trends in policy making as well as to specifics of key countries such as China, Russia, India, and others.
